Competitions for Young Artists
YoungArts - National arts competition for emerging artists (ages 15–18 or in grades 10–12). Winners receive financial awards of up to $10,000, mentorship, and performance and exhibition opportunities. Scholastic Art & Writing Awards - National art and writing recognition program for creative teens (grades 7-12). Winners can receive scholarships of $500-$10,000. Piano Slam - Spoken word poetry competition for middle and high school students from Miami-Dade County. Finalists receive $100, winners receive $500 and a laptop computer. Just Poetry!!! - National poetry competition for high school students. Students can receive scholarships of up to $500. AADL Ann Arbor It’s All Write! Writing Contest - International poetry, flash fiction, and short story contest for writers in grades 6-12. Winners receive awards of up to $250. |
Programs & Organizations in Miami-Dade County for Young Artists
YoungArts Foundation - National organization that recognizes accomplished young artists and provides them with creative and professional development opportunities throughout their careers. Miami Music Project - After school and summer music program where middle and high school students are mentored by professional musicians. Free for students that qualify for Free/Reduced lunch. Guitars Over Guns - Music and mentorship program for students in Miami and Chicago. Motivational Edge - Provides kids an opportunity to record music, dance, or explore the visual arts. The Lyrical Expression Program encourages creative writing (including songwriting) via mentorship and Motivational Edge instruction. SpeakUp - Free teen creative writing and spoken word poetry performance program open to teens ages 13-19. AileyCamp Miami - Free 6-week summer program held annually at the Adrienne Arsht Center. Students take dance classes while learning about nutrition, conflict resolution, drug prevention, critical thinking, etc. Art Prevails Project - Educational program rooted in theater and creative writing. PAMM Teen Arts Council - Extends the opportunity for high school students in Miami to serve as youth ambassadors to the Perez Art Museum. |
